I wrote his name in my journal to make him real, he would frequent my bedroom, entering through my dreams; but never stayed through the night. And I can still find him locked away behind a diminutive brass lock; the key laid away within the tissue and muscle of my mending heart. Sometimes I still go to him, reaching in through a sea of blood, tearing through to release him once more into my psyche. When the discolor advances once again to the surface of my arms, imprinted fingertips and palm yellow and green from the hold he once had on me I know for certain that I was in love before, with him. I can still feel him warm my blood, feel the pressure of his hand on my head forcing me to the floor. The salty proof of this love is wiped away by the hand of truth: “damn we were bad for each other.” | ||||
